Live, Work and Play on the Mississippi River! The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is embarking on an ambitious new venture that will revitalize the City’s riverfront. Phase I of the Convention Center District Development Project, situated on 47 acres upriver and adjacent to the Center, calls for construction of a new “headquarters” hotel needed to accommodate the current demands from meetings and conventions and the projected increase in visitors to the city. Phase II will be the development of other parcels of the 47 acres to include retail, residential and entertainment components and essentially creating the newest neighborhood of this iconic 300 year old city.
Fully funded, designed and soon to be underway to complement the development will be over $60 million of improvements to Convention Center Boulevard, aesthetically linking the Warehouse/Arts District with the CBD and French Quarter. These improvements will establish a urban public park and serve as the gateway to the development featuring a tree-lined pedestrian plaza, fountains, green walls and gathering places. It is expected to be a magnet for residents and visitors alike.
